Project Title: Survey of the Work-Life Balance of New Zealand Teachers who are Parents

Researchers: Dr Dennis Rose, University of Auckland and Professor Matthew Sanders, University of Auckland

Dear Teachers,

My name is Dennis Rose. My colleague, Professor Matthew Sanders, and I would like to ask teachers who are also parents for support in a survey study intending to make a preliminary investigation into the work-life balance of teachers who are parents. I would greatly appreciate any assistance you can give me with this.

Participating in this study will involve completing a 15-25 minute online questionnaire. The questions will ask you about stresses you may experience as a teacher and if you experience any work-home conflict or home-work conflict and the degree to which you might experience it. The questionnaire will also ask you to answer questions relating to the behaviour of your child and also ask for basic demographic information.

Participation is voluntary. Whether or not you decide to be in the study will not influence your standing in your workplace. You can stop participating at any time while completing the online questionnaire. You may also skip any questions that you do not want to answer.

No personal identifying questions will be asked. Due to the online nature of this study, data will not have an IP address attached when downloaded. We will not give your school’s name or any of your information to anyone else. The information will be used for research purposes only. All data collected will be stored securely for six years in the University of Auckland School of Teaching, Learning and Development and then destroyed. We intend to publish the anonymised and generalised findings of the study in education and psychology journals, in reports, and in conference presentations.

Thank you very much for your time and help in making this study possible. If you have any queries or wish to know more please contact me at:
