Woodland Neighbourhood Road Connectivity Survey

The Village of Telkwa is seeking input from residents regarding future road connectivity within the Woodland neighbourhood.

Currently, Woodland Street is the only vehicular access route for properties in the neighbourhood. Staff have identified that Cedar Street appears to have been dedicated as a road, but portions of the roadway are currently fenced and not accessible.

A potential future connection between Cedar Street, Woodland Street, Willow Street, and Coal Mine Road could provide an alternate access route for residents and emergency responders. This could improve emergency response, evacuation capability, and long-term transportation planning.

The Village is exploring options and would like to understand resident perspectives, concerns, and priorities. Your feedback will help inform Council’s decision-making process. This survey will be open until September 30th, 2026.
1.Are you a resident or property owner within the Woodland neighbourhood?
2.How long have you lived in the Woodland neighbourhood?
3.Were you aware that Woodland Street is currently the only vehicular access route into and out of the neighbourhood?
4.How concerned are you about having only one vehicle access route into the neighbourhood?
5.What concerns do you have regarding the current road access situation? (Select all that apply)
6.A potential road connection could link Cedar Street, Woodland Street, Willow Street, and Coal Mine Road. What benefits do you feel this connection could provide? (Select all that apply)
7.What concerns would you have about creating a full public road connection? (Select all that apply)
Potential Options Being Considered
The Village is currently considering three possible approaches:

Option 1 – Construct and Open Full Road Connection
A completed road connection would be opened for public vehicle use, creating a permanent alternate access route.

Option 2 – Construct and Restrict Access
A road connection would be built but remain restricted, available primarily for emergency and maintenance access unless Council determines otherwise in the future.

Option 3 – Do Not Proceed at This Time
Woodland Street would remain the only vehicle access route, with no immediate road connection constructed.
8.Which option do you currently prefer?
9.If a road connection was constructed, what design features would be important to you? (Select all that apply)
10.Do you have any additional comments, concerns, or suggestions regarding future road connectivity in Woodland?
