What We're All About

Every summer, Women in Engineering and Science (WIES) hosts a 4-day science/engineering themed Design Competition for school children in grades 6-9. This event is a Professional Engineers of Ontario West Toronto Chapter (WTPEO) initiative that hopes to make science and engineering a fun and collaborative experience for youth. The participants, along with their expert facilitators, will use the latest technologies to create, design, and develop innovative solutions for a real-life problem. This year’s theme is Sports Related Injuries.

This event runs over the course of two weekends: July 8th & 9th and July 15th & 16th, 2017, taking place at the University of Toronto’s St. George campus.

We Need Your Help!

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers with science/engineering backgrounds, teaching/education backgrounds, experience working/volunteering with kids, marketing/branding experience, knowledge of app design or a willingness to learn basic app building online programs.

More than anything, we are looking for individuals in the roles of team facilitators, mentors, and general volunteers to guide our participants for three workshops, prototype design and building, and a final testing and presentation day.

We are looking for volunteers who are able to commit to at least 2 of the 4 days (all 4 days is even better!)
