This program is limited to current law students.

Timeline
  • The priority deadline for student applications is February 15, 2026. While we will continue to accept applications after this date, those submitted by the deadline will receive first consideration.
  • We will begin contacting applicants during the week of February 23, 2026. If you do not hear from us immediately, please remain patient; additional internship opportunities often arise as judges submit late requests or initial placements change.
Communication
  • All internship updates, including placement correspondence, will be sent via email.
  • To ensure you receive our correspondence, please whitelist the @wicourts.gov domain. All placement emails will originate from court staff using this extension.
Internship Responsibilities and Experience
  • Interns primarily assist judges with legal research and writing. Beyond research and writing, interns may have the opportunity to participate in other professional development activities.
Schedule and Commitment
  • Internship specifics—including start and end dates, weekly hours, and daily schedules—are coordinated directly between the intern and their assigned judge(s).
  • While students traditionally work between 20 and 40 hours per week, most judges offer a degree of flexibility to accommodate student needs.
Academic Credit
  • Most students do not receive college credit for summer internships. If you wish to pursue academic credit, you are responsible for coordinating with your university to determine your eligibility and ensure all institutional requirements are met.
Accessibility/Disability Accommodations
  • Please discuss any specific requirements with your assigned judge after your internship assignment has been finalized.
