Getting New Gas Station Benefits Without Jeopardizing Wentzville Neighborhoods

As shown in the aerial above, a truck stop with gas-diesel pumps has been proposed for the northeast corner of Interstate Drive and Prospect Road along the southwest side of I-64.  Benzene and other pollutants released to the air from gas stations and diesel trucks can increase nausea, cancer, anemia, susceptibility to infections, respiratory disease and low birth weight among those living or learning within 500- to 1,000-feet.

The City of Wentzville does not require the measures adopted by other jurisdictions to protect area residents from the adverse health effects of compounds released at the pump and underground storage tank vents of new gas-diesel stations.

Please add your name and contact information below to join with us in urging the Wentzville Mayor and Board of Aldermen to adopt a 500-foot public health safety zone between new gas-diesel station sites and homes, including the proposed truck stop.  This measure will guide gas-diesel stations to locations where we can enjoy the benefits these establishments provide without exposing our neighbors to harmful fumes.  An analysis by CEDS determined that the public health safety zone will not preclude new gas stations in Wentzville.  The setback would only apply to proposed - not existing -  gas stations.

Further detail on the science supporting these concerns is available at the Alliance webpage: https://ceds.org/whna.
