About webPOISONCONTROL
webPOISONCONTROL is a FREE online tool that: 1) helps poison center staff provide triage recommendations and guidance to poison center callers ("SPI Interface"), and 2) helps people who can’t or won’t call the poison center to determine what to do for single substance unintentional exposures ("Public Tool"). Both “sides” of webPOISONCONTROL use ingredient-based algorithms written by poison center-based medical toxicologists and a robust product and substance database. webPOISONCONTROL is funded by philanthropy, and neither poison centers nor the public are charged for its use. Since 2012, NCPC has been committed to sharing webPOISONCONTROL's product and data with participating poison centers to achieve 1) transparency, 2) harmonization of triage guidelines, 3) use of our algorithms and product database to improve the accuracy and efficiency of poison exposure call triage, 4) easy access to data to promote surveillance for product hazards and poison control research, and 5) external funding to avoid passing the cost burden to you, knowing first-hand the limits on available call center funding.
