The top two women will be selected for the Water Tank Art Project. This project is meant to enhance the cultural arts experience of our community while commemorating the extraordinary efforts of African-Americans that have made a positive impact in American society.

Serena & Vensus Williams - Professional Tennis Players and Olympic Champions

Mary Eliza Mahoney - First African-American to be a professionally trained nurse.

Alice Dunnigan - First African-American woman reporter to cover the White House.

Wilma Rudolph - First American woman to win gold medals in track and field at the Olympics.

Shirley Chisholm - First African - American woman elected to the U.S. congress.

Rosa Parks - Civil Rights Activist, Social Reformer, and Racial Justice Advocate. Most known for refusing to give up her seat on a segregated bus.

Harriet Tubman - Led the 'Underground Railroad' freeing over 300 enslaved blacks to anti-slavery states in the U.S.

Charlotte Ray - First African-American woman lawyer in the U.S. and first to be admitted to the bar in D.C.

Michelle Obama - Attorney and Author and the first African-American woman to hold position as the "First Lady", married to President Barack Obama.

Mae Jemison - Former Astronaut and First black woman to travel into space when she served as a mission specialist aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour.
