Retreat Volunteer Application

The SOAP Project will hold the 2025 Wellness Retreat on a Royal Caribbean Cruise November 3rd-7th to the Bahamas. The retreat is the next step in healing for male survivors of human trafficking. They have been designed by a professional group of therapists, counselors, professors, law enforcement, and most importantly- survivors. The Wellness Retreat is ideal for survivors who are already thriving and ready to address challenges to further their development and healing. These events are a combination of letting go, having fun, laughing, crying, and also working on their inner growth and development.

We thank you for your interest in wanting to volunteer to make the Wellness Retreat for survivors life changing. Once we receive your application, you will be interviewed over the phone or Zoom. Upon acceptance, you will be required to attend a virtual Human Trafficking 101 Training that includes a Trauma Training Competency so that you are fully equipped to volunteer. This training will take place before the weekend. Dates and times will be provided.

The Retreat cruise is totally free for survivors and volunteers, made possible by funding provided by generous funds from donors and grants. However, if you are able to help with your flight so that our funding can support other survivor efforts, please let us know. We place volunteers in rooms with one another (double occupancy with your own bed); however, if you would like your own room we ask you to pay the difference in cost. We also ask that you pay for your own beverage package and wifi.

The weekend is not affiliated with any particular religion; however, they have a spiritual element. We ask that all volunteers honor the spiritual path of each survivor and others' spiritual and religious views. That can be Christian, Jewish, Agnostic, Muslim, Native American, New Age, or other. We feel it is essential to be all-inclusive and accept everyone's walk, even if it is different from our own.

As a volunteer, please keep in mind that these sessions are for survivors. We will provide training on appropriate boundary-setting. Also, many will bond with volunteers and develop lifelong relationships. We have a private Facebook page that volunteers can access after the retreat. All information and discussions there are confidential.

If selected to volunteer, we will have a volunteer meeting on Sunday the 2nd in Fort Lauderdale. SOAP will pay for your hotel room and food for that night. This is not mandatory but highly suggested.
