Job Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Manager of Youth & Family Engagement, the STEM Program Lead is responsible for the successful implementation of a wide variety of STEM offerings including: Girls in Science experiences, STEAM Spotlight programming, Monday Museum Takeover Camps, Fossil Finders early learner programming, Backpack rentals, and Family Days. They will serve as a mentor for students belonging to groups historically underrepresented in STEM fields and will help connect students to Burke and University experiences in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

Basic Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a mentor for students belonging to groups historically underrepresented in STEM;
  • Serve as the primary contact and facilitator during STEM programs, providing a creating a safe, welcoming, encouraging, and age-appropriate environment for participants;
  • Steward relationships with new and existing STEM program partners;
  • Provide exemplary customer service to all Burke Education clients;
  • Maintain physical and digital program materials;
  • Assist with curriculum development, program promotion, planning, preparation, and follow-up;
  • Uphold the institution’s commitment to equitable and inclusive practice;

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Help train and support program interns and volunteers;
  • Ensure successful program documentation;
  • Support the expansion of teen program offerings such as the development of a teen interpreter program and advisory board;
  • Other duties as assigned (field trip program support, cultural program support, etc.).
Requirements:
  • Experience in a STEM field;
  • Understanding of diversity, equity, access, and decolonization in museums, and experience fostering inclusive practice;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and the ability to take detailed notes, send professional emails, and write reports;
  • Track record of excellent attendance, time management skills, and dependability;
  • High degree of flexibility, initiative and strong organization skills;
  • Ability to identify partner and student needs, give direction and troubleshoot problems that arise without direct supervision;
  • High degree of comfort videoconferencing, using Microsoft Suite, and troubleshooting basic technical problems on both Mac and PC;
  • Flexible schedule. Ability to work key program dates with frequent evening and weekend hours;
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 30 pounds alone and up to 60 pounds with assistance;
  • Able to work in an environment visible to the public with visual and audible distractions;
  • Willingness to wear required credentials at all times and work attire/uniforms and name tags as required by position;
  • Appointment to this position is contingent upon obtaining satisfactory results from a criminal background check;
  • Four years of relevant experience either via college coursework, work experience or a combination of both.
Desired background:
  • Bilingual/multilingual;
  • First Aid/CPR Certification;
  • Valid driver’s license and U-Car Certification;
  • Familiarity with UW scientists, campus and labs;
  • Experience using Form Assembly and Patron Manager;
  • Familiarity with UW Administrative Policy Statement 10.13 and youth safety/privacy best practice;
  • Evidence of competency in youth facilitation;
  • Prior registration as Youth Authorized Personnel for a UW youth program;
  • Experience successfully preparing for, delivering, and evaluating youth programs;
  • Skill in use of design programs such as InDesign, Illustrator, Canva, and Photoshop to create presentations and reports;
  • Experience working with the public in customer service capacity;
