Welcome to the District of Tofino's Tsunami Evacuation Survey

The District of Tofino (DoT) is committed to providing leadership and guidelines to meet challenges associated with tsunami evacuation. The DoT was successful in applying for a $25,000 grant with the Community Emergency Preparedness Fund for Evacuation Route Planning. The primary objective for this grant is to improve the 2006 evacuation plan, as well as build on former work to advance tsunami notification and evacuation routes for both local and distant tsunamis for the community.

This survey is designed to gather information about the challenges and explore various aspects of tsunami evacuation for the community of Tofino. The survey aims to:

· Identify public knowledge about tsunamis;
· Identify procedures residents and visitors undertake to prepare and respond to tsunami evacuation events;
· Determine the effectiveness of current tsunami notification and evacuation measures; and
· Obtain learnings to reduce the risk of tsunami events and improve the current evacuation plan.

The survey should take approximately 15 minutes to complete. At the end of the survey, there is an option to enter your name and phone number into a prize draw for a Black Diamond 2-person, 3-day emergency kit (valued at $398) - https://www.sosgear.ca/collections/emergency-kits/products/holistic-epr-sos-gear-2-person-3-day-emergency-kit. The survey runs until July 2, 2019 and the emergency kit will be awarded on July 5, 2019.

Your feedback will help the District of Tofino understand which components of evacuation are important. Thank you for your participation. Should you have any questions regarding the survey, please contact Emergency Program Coordinator, Keith Orchiston at 250-725-3229 (ext. 708) or korchiston@tofino.ca.
