Ohio Transportation Trail Call for Submissions

An America 250-Ohio Program

To celebrate stories of Ohio's impact on transportation and to encourage travel, America 250-Ohio, in partnership with the Ohio Travel Association, launched a driving trail called the Ohio Transportation Trail. This initiative is the fifth statewide trail project introduced by America 250-Ohio since mid-2024 and follows the launch of the Ohio Air & Space Trail, the Ohio Creativity Trail, the Lake Erie to Ohio River Trail, and the Ohio Innovation Trail. These previous trails have already captured the hearts and interest of Ohioans and visitors alike, generating more than 140 million impressions through numerous media stories thus far.
Our goal is to curate the best trail possible, so if we have missed a site, please complete the submission survey. We periodically review and will add new sites that meet the criteria.
Before you Submit:
The Ohio Transportation Trail is a driving route that connects places where visitors can experience Ohio’s transportation stories and innovations. To be included, these stories must be actively interpreted at a physical place — such as a museum, historic site, or publicly accessible infrastructure — where guests can learn, explore, and be engaged. Participating sites should be ready to warmly welcome drop-in visitors who arrive expecting both entertainment and education. Submissions will be evaluated on how well they meet the expectations outlined below.

NOTE: Think about all forms of transportation, not just planes, trains, and automobiles. Consider some of the unexpected experiences, such as the Soap Box Derby, cardboard boats, motorcycles, Little-Tyke cars, etc.
- Accessibility – Is the site open to walk-in visitors regular hours? Is there parking? Is the schedule posted? If you are open only by scheduled tours, these tours must be open to the general public with dates and times clearly posted on the website, as well as an easy booking process.

- Relevancy – Does the site interpret a story that directly relates to the Ohio transportation story? How has the story shaped the future of state and national industry, culture, and opportunities?

- Visitor Experience – Is that story told on-site either through regular tours open to the public or exhibits one can easily find when stopping by the site? Is there signage directing visitors to where they can experience the story? The scope of this project is to create a trail where visitors to and through Ohio can stop and spend an hour or two, learning more while being entertained.
