FORGE is enhancing our online therapist referral database for transgender and gender non-binary survivors of sexual assault (and other forms of intimate crimes). We are grateful to continued funding from Office on Violence Against Women which allows us to improve services and resources for trans survivors.

As you may know, over half of all transgender individuals are survivors of sexual assault. The majority of these survivors have attempted to seek individual or group services from mental health providers – sometimes unsuccessfully due to barriers including provider bias or lack of transgender- or trauma-specific knowledge.

FORGE regularly receives requests for referrals from transgender survivors, loved ones, and professionals who are looking for support for a transgender survivor.  We maintain an online database of providers across the country (see: http://forge-forward.org/directories/).  Many survivors want to know more details about providers than we currently have.

Our hope is to be able to provide more informed referrals to trans survivors when they request a mental health provider in their area, as well as to create a more detailed online database so trans survivors (or other providers) can be empowered to find and research therapists who will meet their needs. In order to better serve survivors, we would greatly appreciate it if you would complete this brief clinical areas of expertise form.

While we encourage you to provide as much information as possible concerning your background, we recognize that some people may not want some detailed information made publicly available.  If this is the case for you, please skip those questions, or let us know in a comment or by direct email to withhold that information and release it only when a potential client contacts us directly.

We deeply appreciate the work you do with trans clients and/or trauma survivors.

If you have any questions about this clinical areas of expertise form, please call us at 414-559-2123, or email AskFORGE@FORGE-forward.org.   Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey!

Who is FORGE?

FORGE is a national transgender anti-violence organization, founded in 1994. Since 2009, we have been federally funded to provide direct services to transgender, gender non-conforming and gender non-binary survivors of sexual assault.

Since 2011, FORGE has served as the only transgender-focused organization federally funded to provide training and technical assistance to providers around the country who work with transgender survivors of sexual assault, domestic and dating violence, and stalking. Our role as a technical assistance provider has allowed us to directly see key continued and emerging challenges many agencies are experiencing in serving sexual assault survivors of all genders.

We have a long history of crafting dynamic in-person, remote-access, and print-based training materials in ways that are highly accessible to many types of victim service providers, as well as to many learning levels and styles.

We are committed to providing the most current and useful information to transgender survivors and the providers who serve them.
