Adopting green practices at your next event? Fill out the checklist below to earn recognition as a Certified Green Event by the Office of Sustainability. You'll receive a free logo recognizing your event to use on your marketing information if you earn 5 points or more.

Requesting or providing organics recycling bins to collect waste food scraps for disposal in the campus organics recycling dumpster

Requesting or providing mixed recycling bins to recycle plastics, paper, cans and bottles, and other recyclables generated by my event attendees.

I will be doing both of the options above to go zero waste!

I will donate leftover food from my event to the campus Food Recovery Network chapter so they can notify food insecure students to come by and take food after the event. I will be e-mailing sustainability@csudh.edu at least one week before my event with my event date and time to arrange this service.

Planning a menu that uses in-season, fresh, local organic produce

Requesting food items that are Fair Trade Certified

Selecting vegetarian and vegan food options to serve at my event which have less impact on the environment than meat dishes.

Requesting DH Catering serve locally farmed from the Campus Urban Farm at my event. If applying for a catering exemption/providing our own food, I will be e-mailing dhurbanfarm@gmail.com to request fresh farm produce at my event.

* 5. I will be making sustainable purchasing decisions by adopting the following practices when supplying my event:

We will not purchase or allow styrofoam plateware or products at my event

We will use reusable plateware and serviceware instead of single-serving disposable items such as boxes, straws, utensils, etc.

We will serve water and beverages from a dispenser. We will also provide environmentally-friendly cups that can be reused or recycled and/or encourage event attendees to bring their own reusable cups and bottles to fill up

We will be going entirely paperless by using a projector, dry-erase boards, laptops/tablets, smartphones, etc. to replace individual paper hand outs and flip charts

Giving attendees the option to refuse copies, recycle, or return unwanted paper handouts after the event.

Printing double-sided copies of handouts and recycling any leftover copies at the end of the event.

Give out sustainably-sourced products (3rd party certified) and/or are made of environmentally preferred materials (high recycled content, made of renewable materials, etc.)

Give out reusable items like a reusable coffee mug or water bottle.

Give out prizes that are experience-based instead of physical items

Purchasing carbon offsets to reduce greenhouse gas impacts from guests traveling to our event

Providing alternative transportation information (e.g. bus routes, Toro Express schedule, etc.) to off-campus guests
