Proposed New ACME Criteria for Programmatic Accreditation of Midwifery Education

Third-Party Comment Period
December 20, 2018-February 8, 2019

The mission of the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (ACME) is to advance excellence in midwifery education. The ACME Board of Commissioners (BOC) is pleased to invite you to comment on the proposed new criteria. As an accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE), ACME conducts periodic comprehensive reviews of its standards. ACME conducts its criteria review every five years to assure quality and to remain in compliance with the Department’s standards.

The purpose of midwifery accreditation criteria is to:

·  Promote excellence in education programs that prepare students to enter the midwifery profession

·  Protect students and the public by recognizing midwifery education programs that meet or exceed accreditation standards

·  Promote improvement of midwifery education programs’ educational activities by means of self-study and evaluation
The primary goal of ACME’s criteria review and revision process is to ensure its accreditation criteria continue to focus on academic quality and student achievement to successfully prepare graduates to enter professional practice. ACME considers the dynamic environment and ongoing discussions in higher education as well as in the midwifery profession to ensure that the criteria are aligned with the needs and goals of ACME’s stakeholders.

ACME seeks comments and suggestions from its stakeholders and communities of interest to develop, validate, and clarify the proposed criteria. Stakeholders will have six weeks to provide comments from December 20, 2018-February 8, 2019. All comments must reference a specific criterion and include any reasoning and research to support recommendations. Comments must be submitted through this Survey Monkey. Please indicate your comments per the six criteria sections in the appropriate spaces below. If you have no comment please place N/A in the comments field.

Please contact Heather L. Maurer, MA, ACME Executive Director with any questions at hmaurer@acnm.org.
