APPLICATION PROCESS

Welcome to the 2023 Trauma Acute Care Surgery (ACS) Externship Application.  The Externship is scheduled June 5 - 16, 2023. 

The full application consists of five elements:

1.  Trauma ACS Externship application
  • Complete the information requested in the next few pages
2.  Professional Character Reference Letter
  • Submit one professional character reference letter
  • Professional character references should be written by someone who knows the applicant well in a professional capacity and can speak to their level of responsibility and reliability
  • Reference should be well-written and reflect a high level of professionalism
  • Reference may be submitted directly to the Inova Trauma Center either electronically or by mail by the person writing the letter
3.  Resume or Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Resume/CV may be submitted directly to the Inova Trauma Center either electronically or by mail
4. Essay
  • Answer the following three questions in your essay:
      * What are your professional goals?
      * How would the externship help you reach those goals?
      * Why do you think you should be part of the externship?
  • Name and address in the upper right-hand corner of each page
  • Arial or Times New Roman font, 12 point, double-spaced, 1-inch margins
  • Length not to exceed two pages
  • Essay may be submitted directly to the Inova Trauma Center either electronically or by mail
5.  School Transcript(s)
  • Transcript(s) may be submitted directly to the Inova Trauma Center either electronically or by mail
