Disability Rights UK Easy Read strategy survey

What is important to you today?

Disability Rights UK is starting a national discussion with Disabled people.

Your lived experience and knowledge is important to us for helping our organisation decide our next future goals.

We are putting together a new plan for the next five years.

As an organisation which Disabled people run, we want it to make sure it reflects your experience, thoughts and aspirations for our future.
The goals we currently have were set in a very different time. We think things have changed for Disabled people in today’s world. So we want to change our goals so they better match what is important for Disabled people now.

This is our chance to stop what we are doing, listen to one another and choose where we go next.

We don’t want to make it feel like you’re filling in a form. We want a conversation. Every person's voice is important. We might not be able to implement every goal, but you can really help shape and focus which way we go in the next five years.

We’d love your thoughts and ideas on the questions below.
1.What in your opinion and experience are the biggest obstacles for living as a Disabled person in the UK today?

Examples could be
  • People might think that Disabled people can’t work or live independently
  • Not including Disabled people in social activities
  • Not being able to access buildings because they are not accessible
  • Not having the right adaptations in place at work
  • People might not be aware of what adjustments you are entitled to
2.What is one positive way you can think of for Disability Rights UK to help remove these obstacles?
3.Please tell us one thing that would help improve your life?

Examples could be:

  • More help to get a job

  • Improving access to transport

  • A friendly GP explaining things in simple language to you

  • Help with how to manage money

  • Accessibility technology which can help when doing your job
4.What is one thing that the people who make decisions at Disability Rights UK need to know?
5.What are the important things that Disability Rights UK should focus on in the next five years?
Thank you very much for all your thoughts and suggestions.
