Domestic Violence Advocacy - Summer Training Registration

  1. People who are NOT planning to volunteer with Walnut Avenue. (If a person completes the Summer training but then changes their mind and wishes to volunteer with Walnut Avenue, then they will need to schedule a meeting with one of the facilitators to receive information necessary for volunteering. They would not need to redo the training itself. They will not receive a refund for the Summer training.)

Policies Regarding Summer DV Trainings

By California law, the DV training must be a minimum of 40 hours. Our training is spread out over 4 weeks, which means that you should expect to spend a minimum of 10 hours each week on the training. Each week, 4 of those hours are self-paced in an online course and 6 are part of a live session on Friday which happens virtually via Zoom.
9.I understand that I will need to attend one of the two Info Night session options listed on the Info Night page prior to the start of the training.(Required.)
10.I understand that I am being asked to commit 10 hours/week to the DV training for 4 weeks once it begins. This includes listening/watching to recorded lectures and submitting responses to homework questions via Google Forms.(Required.)
11.I understand that there are 5 mandatory live virtual sessions for this training:
  • A two-hour introductory meeting at the start of Week 1
  • Four six-hour sessions at the end of each weekly module on Fridays, 10am-5pm PT

12.I understand that if something outside of my control arises which interferes with my ability to participate in the training, including any of the live sessions, then it is my responsibility to communicate as soon as possible with the facilitators.(Required.)
13.I understand that if I miss one or more of the live sessions, then the facilitators cannot guarantee that they will be available to facilitate any makeup sessions to ensure that I complete the minimum hours required by law.(Required.)
Participation
14.I understand that it is my responsibility to have access to a device which allows me to use the online course page of Walnut Avenue's website and to participate in Zoom meetings using both video and audio. I also understand that it is my responsibility to have basic experience navigating websites and Zoom, as the facilitators will not always be available to assist with individual technological challenges.(Required.)
15.I understand that during the live virtual sessions, I am required to keep my camera on. I also understand that I should not be engaged in other activities such as driving, running errands, or talking to other people in the room with me. However, "busy hands" activities such as knitting or drawing which aren't distracting are welcome.(Required.)
16.I understand that completing the training is not guaranteed to result in certification and it is based on a Pass/No Pass assessment rubric. I also understand that I will need to submit a timesheet to the facilitators at the end of the training to receive my certificate of completion, and that the facilitators will provide instructions about the timesheet during the training.(Required.)
Training Fee
Please note that current Cabrillo students may participate in the training at no cost. If you are a current Cabrillo student, then you will be asked to provide a proof of enrollment document, which can be downloaded at any time from the documents section of your MyCabrillo student account.
17.I understand that the Summer DV training has a fee of $295. It can be paid in one sum or in installments prior to, or over the course of, the training. Payment(s) should be made using any of the digital means listed on our donation page and that "DV training" should be specified in the notes of any digital payment.(Required.)
18.I understand that payment is due in full on or before the last live session. Failure to complete payment will result in not receiving my certificate of completion, regardless of my final assessment score.(Required.)
19.I understand that I will receive a full refund of what I've paid towards my training fee if I choose to end my participation, for any reason, before the live session of Week 3. I understand that I must confirm with the facilitators in writing that I am withdrawing my participation instead of simply not showing up anymore.(Required.)
20.I understand that if I do not pass the assessment rubric, I will not receive my certification and I will not be refunded for the cost of the training. The assessment rubric may be viewed here.(Required.)
