Volunteer Toronto’s Subscription Service provides non-profit organizations and volunteer-run groups with access to our volunteer recruitment portal to connect with prospective volunteers, as well as training and resources to build strong volunteer management practices. Volunteer Toronto takes its role as a connector between volunteers and organizations very seriously, and works hard to ensure that the volunteer postings and volunteer engagement practices of Subscriber organizations align with our vision and values. Subscriber non-profits are required to comply with the policies that inform Subscription:

This policy indicates the terms that a Subscriber must follow when posting volunteer roles on VolunteerToronto.ca.

Volunteer Toronto does not permit:

  • Postings that include or contain any material that is exploitive, obscene, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, hateful, defamatory, sexually explicit or pornographic, violent, inflammatory, or discriminatory based on race, sex, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation, age or other such legally prohibited ground, or be otherwise objectionable, such determination to be made at Volunteer Toronto's sole discretion.
  • The posting of donation or funding appeals, program participant opportunities, paid positions, (paid or unpaid) internships or co-op placements, as well as full-time positions or those which replace the work of paid staff.
  • The posting of positions which require that applicants contribute membership fees, donations, or training fees (unless specific reasoning is provided) in order to volunteer.
  • Subscribers to post positions on behalf of other organizations.
Subscribers agree that all postings shall include:
  • The name of the subscriber organization
  • The location where volunteering will take place (unless stated as virtual)
  • A clear description of the position’s responsibilities
  • The time commitment involved
  • Clear instructions on how to apply
Additionally, subscribers agree to ensure that:
  • Any in-person volunteer positions take place within (a reasonable commuting distance of) the City of Toronto.
  • Postings articulate a justification for bona fide requirements related to protected grounds under the Ontario Human Rights Code (e.g., citizenship, age, creed, race, gender identity and gender expression, sexual orientation, record of offences etc.).
  • Postings for which a subscriber is no longer accepting applicants are deactivated.
