Story Submission

If you have reviewed the research project information at placeresponsive.ca and provided consent, you may participate in the first part of the project by submitting a story of place-responsive practice using the upload feature below.

Any adult who has or does work with or support K-12 students in BC can submit a story for Part One of the study – employment with a school district is not a requirement. Participants that submit stories do not have to join a focus group or do a vignette interview, unless they want to do that as well.

The stories are like snapshots of practices from the field, and will help us understand why, how, and where educators decide to teach and learn in and from place. The stories will be used by focus groups for sensemaking. They can be short (e.g. less than a page, even a few lines) or longer if you wish. They could include sketches, field notes, or other forms of writing and representation besides sentences and paragraphs. They might describe an event, memory, exchange, feeling, or insight that relates to your experience with students that responds in some way to place (e.g. this usually means outdoors, but not always). Don't worry too much about polish and finish; we're looking for the raw experiences of educators.

Later, when the educators from North Central BC meet to read these stories and make sense of them in the context of their own practice, they will benefit from stories of different lengths and perspectives. We are interested in how, why, and where you decided to use place to teach, and also about the challenges or dynamics that went with these decisions.

Rather than trying to say everything in one story, if you what you would like to share seems like more than one story, then feel free to submit more than one story using the same link.

If you wish to submit your story anonymously, that is fine. To remain anonymous, please omit any details in the story that might identify yourself. If you consent to have your name associated with your story, that is also fine. If so, please consider beginning the story with a brief author’s statement. You can include as much information as you wish, including name and any aspects of your identity or background that you feel are important to the story, or will help us understand who is telling these stories.

In all cases, please do not identify other people, including students and colleagues, by name or details, as they do not have the opportunity to provide consent to be included in the study data. You are welcome to identify specific places or locations if they are important to your story. Prompts, tips, and examples for writing stories can be found on the study website placeresponsive.ca.
