Contest Schedule

The contest will be a four-hour project consisting of a service installation using residential, commercial, and industrial plumbing/pipefitting methods that conform to the North Carolina Plumbing Code. Power tools (OSHA approved) will be permitted.

8:00 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. Registration

Requirements for Contestants

  • Must be a registered plumbing or pipefitting apprentice or pre apprentice and training with an employer who has a program that is registered with ApprenticeshipNC.
  • Must be sponsored by a registered program or Apprenticeship Committee.
  • Must furnish own equipment and a complete set of tools, including: pipe saw (PVC); plumb bob; pocket level; current plumbing code book; drill motor; reciprocating saw; 6' ruler or tape; 3"–6" screwdrivers (slotted and Phillips); pocketknife; pipe reamer; channel lock (1 pair); hammer; tri-square; 100' power extension cord (OSHA approved); 1/2" & 3/4” PEX crimpers; PEX tubing cutters & carpenters pencil. (Consumable supplies will be furnished by Plumbing Contest Committee.)
  • Must wear proper footwear (no sneakers) and use safety glasses with full side shields and work gloves.
  • Entry form must be submitted by September 15, 2019.
  • Must not have completed apprenticeship or pre apprenticeship prior to October 25, 2019.
  • First place winner is ineligible to compete in future contests.
  • Contest limited to 20 qualified contestants.
  • Must be present before 8:30 a.m. to register.
  • Must be knowledgeable of Occupational Safety and Health Hazard Communication Standard.

All participants will be required to sign a photo and workplace release to participate in the contest. This form will be emailed to you upon registration. If no email address has been provided, we will mail it to the address you provided.

In order to receive any prize money, all participants are required to provide a social security number the day of the event. It is not a requirement to participate, but you will not be able to receive any money from the Department of Agriculture if this is not available on the day of the event.

Pre Apprentices may qualify for prize money under the same judging rules after all apprentice participants have been awarded prizes.

Location

Events will be held at the Apprenticeship Tent between the Jim Graham building and Hillsborough St. on the south side of the fairgrounds.

Every valid registration will receive 2 free tickets to enter the fair grounds for the day of the event to allow you and a guest to attend.
