7:30 a.m.- 8:30 a.m. Registration
8:30 a.m.- 9:00 a.m. Contestant Briefing, Tool, Clothing and Safety Equipment Check.
9:00 a.m.- 2:30 p.m. Contest
                   3:00 p.m. Awards Ceremonies

Requirements for Contestants

  • Must be a registered HV/AC apprentice or Pre Apprentice and training with an employer who has a program that is registered with the ApprenticeshipNC.
  • Must be sponsored by a registered program or Apprenticeship Committee.
  • Must furnish the following tools and meters:
  • Flare Block and Yoke; Tube cutter; Gauge manifold; Volt-Ohm meter; Pressure temperature chart—R-22; Wiping cloth; Safety glasses; Lever bender; Ammeter; Tool to deburr tubing; Tubing wire brush; Nut driver set; Basic hand tools; Service valve wrench; Steel rule or measuring tape; Screwdrivers, straight and Phillips; Two thermometers or an electronic thermometer with two probes.
  • Must wear proper footwear (no sneakers) and use safety glasses with full side shields and work gloves.
  • Entry form must be submitted by September 15, 2019.
  • Must not have completed apprenticeship prior to October 25, 2019.
  • First place winner ineligible to compete in future contests.
  • Contest limited to 20 qualified contestants.
  • Must be present before 8:30 a.m. to register.
  • Must be knowledgeable of Occupational Safety and Health Hazard Communication Standard.

All participants will be required to sign a photo and workplace release to participate in the contest. This form will be emailed to you upon registration. If no email address has been provided, we will mail it to the address you provided.

In order to receive any prize money, all participants are required to provide a social security number the day of the event. It is not a requirement to participate, but you will not be able to receive any money from the Department of Agriculture if this is not available on the day of the event.

Pre Apprentices may qualify for prize money under the same judging rules after all apprentice participants have been awarded prizes.

Location

Events will be held at the Apprenticeship Tent between the Jim Graham building and Hillsborough St. on the south side of the fairgrounds.

Every valid registration will receive 2 free tickets to enter the fair grounds for the day of the event to allow you and a guest to attend.
