Teams compete and work in pairs. If you do not have a name now, please insert TDB or "to be determined". We can take competitor changes up to the morning of the event.

If you have more than 1 team to compete, please submit a separate application for each team.

Any competition slots available after the 1st team from each school filed on time is chosen will be allocated equally so the most schools can participate. You may switch the competing team for your school at any time up to the day of the competition.

Requirements for Contestants
  • Must be a high school student in a related curriculum.
  • Must furnish own equipment and a complete set of tools including: hammer, level, framing square, combination square, tape, folding rule, hand saw, circular saw (OSHA approved), 100' extension cord (OSHA approved), tin snips, cord/cordless drill, and #2 driver bit. Circular saws with replaced cords and extension cords that have been repaired will not be approved. No power chop saws or miter saws allowed.
  • Must wear proper footwear (no sneakers). Must have safety glasses, ear protection, leather gloves and hard hat available.
  • Must submit entry form no later than September 15, 2019.
  • Contest limited to 20 qualified teams of 2 contestants.

  • 100 Points - Availability and Care of Required Tools and Equipment
  • 100 Points - Safety
          TOTAL - 800 Points
All participants will be required to sign a photo and workplace release to participate in the contest. This form will be emailed to you upon registration. If no email address has been provided, we will mail it to the address you provided.

Because participants are typically under 18 years of age, all competitors will be required to have their parent or guardian sign off on their release form.

In order to receive any prize money, all participants are required to provide a social security number the day of the event. It is not a requirement to participate, but you will not be able to receive any money from the Department of Agriculture if this is not available on the day of the event.


Location

Events will be held at the Apprenticeship Tent between the Jim Graham building and Hillsborough St. on the south side of the fairgrounds.

Every school will receive 1 entry ticket for each registered teammate plus 1 for the instructor to attend the event. If you need more to include chaperones, classmates, family and friends of the competitor, please contact us directly by email at mccartyr@nccommunitycolleges.edu

Bus parking will be made available the day of the event. Please coordinate with ApprenticeshipNC and we'll see this event is as convenient as possible including site drop-off for tools and students.
