Title of Research Study: Georgia Sports Writers Survey
Researcher's Contact Information: Carolyn S. Carlson, 470-578-2417 and ccarls10@kennesaw.edu
Introduction
This survey asks Georgia sports writers about their thoughts on the ramifications of an amendment to the Georgia Open Records Act, which allows University System of Georgia athletic departments 90 days to release records to the public. The results will be sent to the Georgia Legislature in the hope that they will reconsider the amendment.
Description of Project
The purpose of this study is to gather data about the experiences of Georgia sports writers who have requested athletic records, and how the amendment has affected public access to those records.
Explanation of Procedures
The survey will ask 16 questions, most graded on a Likert scale. Several are open-ended questions. The survey will use skip-logic to determine the follow-up questions that the respondents will be asked. Those writers who don’t make routine contact with college athletic departments will be dismissed from the survey and thanked for their time.
Time Required
The survey should take about five minutes to complete.
Risks or Discomforts
The survey is anonymous, and there are no embarrassing or particularly difficult questions for the respondents to answer.
