On 16 October 2015, the independent AFMA Commission decided to undertake a two year trial of a Scientific Panel and Stakeholder Forum Model as a way of obtaining scientific and economic advice regarding the Small Pelagic Fishery (SPF).
In July 2017 AFMA began a review of the Model and is consulting with key stakeholders, the Scientific Panel, the South East Management Advisory Committee (SEMAC) and the public to inform this review. To allow time for any outcomes of the review to be implemented, the Scientific Panel and Stakeholder Forum Model has been extended until June 2018.

Following consultation, recommendations regarding the model for the future provision of scientific and economic advice in the SPF will be provided to the independent AFMA Commission for consideration.
