Dear sisters and brothers in Christ,

We are about to begin an exciting chapter in the life of Southminster Presbyterian Church (SPC) as we approach the 50th anniversary of this congregation. As we live into our mission mandate (To be a welcoming spiritual community joyfully proclaiming our faith in Jesus Christ and serving those in need), the Deacons and Elders are encouraging all 'minsters during Lent and Eastertide to look deeply into ourselves, understand God’s goodness to us in so many ways, and then, in turn, return to God a portion of who we are as the Christian community called Southminster. In other words, How is God calling you to serve in, with, and through Southminster?

It is necessary every so often to stop and take a fresh look at how we are living our lives. This is a chance to grow closer to God and to allow the Holy Spirit to enliven and refocus our lives. This process is an opportunity to realize even more our holy mission as a congregation.

As we plan for the next program year (June-May) we encourage you to take the following survey called, "My Opportunity to Serve". It should take you no more than 10 minutes to complete and we would like to have all responses in by Easter Sunday. Please complete the survey per person (e.g. a husband and wife will each complete a separate survey, and youth and young adults as well). If you would like a paper copy of the survey, please contact the Church office or Pastor Christian.

As you explore this survey, we invite you to look at Time and unique Talents God has given to each of you. Explore prayerfully how you might use your time and talents for good—for the good of this church, this community, our world. If you are serving currently, please consider if you are called to continue or if God is calling you to another way of serving.

We hope all of us will find this new process a very useful way to take stock of ourselves as an intentional Christian community in the Presbyterian tradition. This is a chance to grow closer to God and to allow the Holy Spirit to enliven and refocus our lives. Let us begin, humbly yet confidently, with a simple prayer:

Lord God, we realize that this very moment is an opportunity, a channel of your grace, an invitation. So, enter into this room, enter into our lives in a new and powerful way. Out of your goodness and bounty, You have blessed us with so many gifts. Just the next breath that we take is a reminder of our utter dependence on You. You generously sent your own Son to earth to show us the way to live. Now, help us open our hearts to you in that same spirit of generosity. Through conscious, intentional stewardship of our time, our talents and our treasure, help us to live as you have lived, love as you have loved, and share as you have shared. We pray with the surety that you will show us what it is we are to do with the many gifts you have given us. Let us use them in proclaiming your way within your church, your community, and your world. We pray these words in confidence and in your loving presence. Amen.

Peace and blessings to you all,
