Welcome to our study on parental policies, awareness and perceptions regarding children’s video gaming. You have been selected for participation because you are at least 18 years of age and have at least one child.

This research has been approved by the Institutional Review Board at Southern Oregon University. No personal information will be collected. All information is strictly confidential and identifying information will be destroyed after the responses for all participants have been aggregated. A summary of results will be reported. No names will ever be used in any report of the results of this study. If you have any concerns about the confidentiality of the information you provide please feel free to contact the principal investigator (see below). No personal information will be collected. All information is strictly confidential and will be protected to the degree permitted by the technology used (e.g. IP addresses will be stripped when the survey is submitted). However, no guarantee can be made regarding the interception of data sent via the Internet by any third parties.

The purpose of this study is to gain a better understanding of parent’s attitudes toward video games and the degree to which they actively monitor and/or supervise children’s video gaming behaviors. This research is being conducted by Dr. Doug Smith, PhD, Associate Professor of Psychology at Southern Oregon University, The aggregate data will be analyzed and may be presented at professional conferences and/or in psychological journals to help further research in this emerging field. You may skip any question that you do not want to answer. Your participation is voluntary, refusal to participate will involve no penalty or loss of benefits to you. You may discontinue participation at any time without penalty or loss of benefits to you. There are no known risks to participants. Benefits to participants could include a more complete understanding of the differences in parenting attitudes towards video and online gaming.

Upon completion of the survey, you will have the option to be entered into a drawing for an Apple Ipod Touch. Information will be provided at the end of the survey.
