Goals and objectives
APC is undertaking a project to review and revise the APC Accreditation Standards for Pharmacy Programs 2020.

The Pharmacy Board of Australia has engaged APC to complete the cyclical (5 yearly) review of the Accreditation Standards for Pharmacy Programs 2020 and produce a revised set of standards.

This project will be undertaken with extensive consultation with relevant stakeholders, and in accordance with the Ahpra Accreditation Committee's:

The current APC Accreditation Standards for Pharmacy Programs 2020 are accompanied by a Performance Outcomes (POs) Framework which is used to describe the performance required of program graduates as part of their journey to gaining general registration with the Pharmacy Board of Australia (the Pharmacy Board). The POs will not be reviewed as part of this project, as they will soon be replaced with a newly developed Pharmacist Capability Framework.
Deliverables
The key deliverables for successful completion of the project include:

1. Environmental Scan and Literature Review

To guide the review of the Accreditation Standards an environmental scan to accompany the Health Profession Accreditation practices International Literature Review 2018 is required. It is expected that this will encompass the review and mapping of current accreditation standards used by:
- other accreditation authorities under the National Scheme
- pharmacy program accreditation authorities/bodies (or similar) in comparable countries.

The environmental scan and literature review are due for completion by 3 October 2025.

2. Draft Standards Revision #1

Utilising findings of the environmental scan and literature review as well as feedback from key stakeholders, draft revised standards will be developed. This will be considered by the project governance group and during the preliminary consultation process.

Draft standards revision #1 is due for completion by 3 November 2025.

3. Draft Standards Revision #2

Analysis of the feedback from the preliminary consultation will be undertaken and used to develop a second draft of the revised standards. This will be considered by the project governance group and used to inform the public consultation.

Draft standards revision #2 is due for completion by 5 January 2026.

4. Final draft standards

Analysis of the feedback from the public consultation will be undertaken and used to develop the final draft of the revised standards. These will be presented to the governance group for endorsement, and the APC Board and Ahpra/the Pharmacy Board for approval.

Final draft standards are due for completion by 27 February 2026.

It is expected that the SME will be available to undertake this work from September 2025 through to the end of March 2026. The time commitment is expected to be between 2-4 days a week depending on timing of deliverables.
