OTHER/STUDENT RESEARCHERS: Dr George Van Doorn

Emily Kumpis

We invite adults over the age of 18 to participate in a study conducted by fourth year Psychology students, Kaitlin Kearney and Emily Kumpis, under the supervision of Drs Danielle Wagstaff and George Van Doorn of the Faculty of Health at Federation University Australia. The study will investigate factors that affect the kinds of judgements you make about other people’s faces.

If you agree to participate in the study, you will be asked to provide some demographic information, including age and gender, and complete questionnaires aimed at measuring body image and experiences of motherhood (for female participants), as well as your perception of others. You will also be asked to complete a task in which you will rate a series of faces on a various social attributes (such as attractiveness). The survey should take around 20-30 minutes to complete.

Participation in this study is entirely voluntary, and you have the right to withdraw your consent to participate or discontinue the study at any time without explanation. Please note, however, that because participation in this study is anonymous, every time you move to a new page in the survey, your data will be aggregated. As such, removal of data from the group will not be possible as an individual’s data will not be able to be identified. Only group data will be reported from this research, no individual responses. By moving forward in this survey, it is assumed that you have read this statement and agree to participate.

Data will be stored securely at Federation University. This research will be used in the theses of Ms Kearney and Ms Kumpis, and may be presented in other formats (published papers, conference presentations).

It is anticipated that there will be no risks or discomfort throughout the course of the research. However, if any adverse feelings occur, please do not hesitate to withdraw from the survey.
