For ScienceLIVE 2025-26 in-person classroom visits:
  • At least two practicing UMass Chan scientists will be present for each of your class periods.
  • We will bring the materials for a fun, hands-on experiment for each of your students.
  • All of this is FREE!
For teachers with multiple sections of the same grade, we schedule all classes for one teacher in the same day.

For 6th Grade, we offer Project BioEYES (exploring genetics and the life cycle).
In this interactive week-long experiment, your students will learn about development, habitat, and genetics by caring for real zebrafish embryos.

For 7th grade, we offer The Building Blocks of Life (exploring cell and molecular biology).
In this 45-minute module, your students revisit the characteristics of all living things, cells as the basic units of life, and the role of DNA, with our scientists. They engage in the steps of the scientific process as they perform a hands-on DNA extraction and compare the extracted DNA from different foods.

For your 8th grade classes, we offer Doctor's Orders: Finish Your Antibiotics (exploring microbiology).
In this 45-minute module, your students demonstrate the real-world application of classroom concepts by performing a modeling experiment illustrating the consequences of mutations in a pathogenic “strain of bacteria” and the importance of following the directions for an antibiotic prescription.
