Dear Senators Warren and Markey and Congressman Moulton:

As a friend of Lynn Community Health Center I am writing to ask for your help. At the end of September Lynn Community Health Center, along with every other federally funded community health center in the United States, will lose up to 70% of its federal funding unless Congress acts to avert a “funding cliff.” For Lynn Community Health Center this means a loss of up to $2.3 million, resulting in up to 1,230 people in our community losing access to healthcare.

Please do not let these funds expire at the end of September. I am asking you to support our nation’s health centers by taking action to avert the upcoming Funding Cliff. Our community depends on access to quality, affordable healthcare.

Thank you.

As we all work to curb the rising cost of health care in this country, I want to make sure you know that Lynn Community Health Center is doing its part to reduce costs to the health care system by effectively managing chronic care conditions, coordinating care among the community’s providers, and keeping people out of costlier care settings like the emergency room. Nationally, health centers save $1,200 per patient per year – a total annual savings of $24 billion to the entire health care system. In addition to reducing costs, Lynn Community Health Center provides high-quality primary and preventive health care to the people who need it most. It serves the health care home for more than 39,000 individuals who rely on us for primary care, dental, behavioral health, pharmacy, and a variety of support services to our community. Because it is locally-owned and directed by a patient majority board, a mandatory and uniquely valuable part of its governance, our health center must be, and quite frankly has proven itself to be, truly responsive to the needs of our community.

I have witnessed the countless contributions Lynn Community Health Center has made to addressing our community’s health care needs while at the same time boosting our local economy. I am asking for your help now to preserve Health Centers’ so they can continue their vital role in our health care system. This request is urgent, because Health Centers like ours are currently facing a significant loss of federal funding at the end of September 2015, resulting in a sixty to seventy percent reduction in operational funding of $1.9 to $2.3 million. Such a loss of funding would immediately reduce access to care for many in our community and damage our local economy through layoffs, and service reductions. Averting this funding cliff is critical to ensuring the stability and financial viability of health centers like ours.

I am hopeful that we can count on your support as we work to meet the persistent demand for affordable primary care in our community.
