Welcome, and thank you for your interest in our training!

Lighthouse Youth & Family Services offers cultural competency training in order to help improve understanding of the unique needs, challenges, and experiences of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer/Questioning (LGBTQ) youth. Accepting and inclusive families, faith communities, educators, caregivers, and youth-serving professionals are key to their success and well-being.

We do this work because LGBTQ young people are often subject to harassment at school, erasure in faith communities, rejection from their families, and hostility in youth-serving systems.  This systematic abuse leads LGBTQ youth to have significantly higher rates of depression, suicide, substance abuse and homelessness, to name just a few harmful outcomes. Although this training focuses on LGBTQ youth, the information is also highly relevant to working with adult LGBTQ community members.
