Patient engagement in research describes patients, families, and care partners engaging to plan, do, and share research.

1. PiPER Toolkit Roadshow: This workshop provides essential tools and insights to effectively plan, implement, and evaluate patient engagement in research (PER) using the PiPER Toolkit. During the Roadshow, topics that participants will learn about include:
  • The roles people with lived experience can play in research, as well as training resources specific to each role
  • Tools to plan, implement, and evaluate the success of PER
  • Overview of PER related to grant applications
2. Plain Language Summary Roadshow: Designed to empower scientists, research staff, and trainees with the skills and knowledge to effectively communicate their research through plain language summaries (PLS). During the Roadshow, participants will:
  • Learn why plain language summaries are essential for enhancing public understanding and engagement with scientific research
  • Receive step-by-step guidance on how to create clear, concise, and informative PLS that effectively convey complex research findings
  • Participate in interactive exercises and receive personalized feedback to refine their PLS writing skills
  • Gain access to templates, examples, and a curated list of additional resources to support their ongoing efforts in creating impactful PLS
