1. Explanation of Resume Application

Greetings! You have purchased a quality one-page, skills-based resume that actually gets results, because it's handcrafted by a national authority in personal marketing.

In order to write your resume effectively, I'll need some detailed information about your background, experiences, and skills. So in this survey are some questions and requests for information that I’ll need in order to build a personalized resume that shows employers what YOU bring to a position that your competition doesn’t. Your Unique Selling Proposition (USP) boils down to your unique combination of transferable skills and experience factors that no one else has.

The main things I will need from you are: your name and contact information, your brief work history (over the last 10-12 years), the scope of your responsibilities, your next career goals and, most importantly, the biggest achievements in your career so far.

Now, what do I mean by achievements? Remember, until an employer gets to know you, you are nothing but a commodity. They want to know if you can quickly affect their bottom line and pay for yourself.

So we need to show them that you have either:

a) saved the company money (for instance, project management or process improvement), or

b) brought money into the company (such as business development or sales)

In other words, in order to really get an employer's attention, I’d really like to see some numbers associated with your past work experience.

It's the NUMBERS associated with your career that impress a hiring manager enough to call you. If you have to estimate or give me averages, that’s ok, as long as you believe them to be somewhat accurate. Remember, your resume has to only be a “good faith estimate” of your achievements, even though a potential employer usually can't verify your numbers. If you can't come up with the numbers, that's perfectly fine - we'll determine these together. All I need are a few words about an achievement that remind you to tell me the story of it.

You'll find that some of the questions in this application may seem redundant to you, or don't resonate with you. This is because I phrase things differently in each question to spark your memory, and the wording sparks different people in different ways. So if you feel there is a question that asks the same thing, but in a different way, feel free to leave it blank. But give each question a good, hard look, and sit back in your chair and think for awhile before moving on to the next question.

So let’s get started!
