Informed Consent

Thank you for showing an interest in knowing more about your digital media use.

Voluntary participation
We will not need any identifying information from you. Because we do not require your personal details, the survey is completely anonymous and your participation in this survey is entirely voluntary. If you wish to discontinue the survey, simply close your Internet browser. Your individual responses will NOT be publicly available. However, if you would like the individual results to be shared with the requesting agency, please enter the code given to you at the end of the survey.

Who can take part?
Any individuals interested in knowing more about digital media use may participate in this research survey. To be eligible to participate, you must: (a) have access to a computer and the Internet; and (b) be computer literate with the ability to read and write English.

What is involved?
In total, the survey should not take longer than 10 minutes, but please take as long as needed to assess your use.

Benefits and risks
This survey will provide you with an opportunity to explore your use of digital media. More broadly, your comments will contribute to a better understanding of the unique and often very personal ways in which different individuals interact with the Internet, video games and digital media. With further research, this knowledge will facilitate the design and implementation of more effective and appropriate services for individuals living with problematic use issues.

Some of the questions will ask about your current technology use and past experiences of being depressed. The risk of causing distress is low, however should you become distressed, you must contact your clinician, or phone the local crisis call number of your closest hospital.

Feedback to participants
A copy of our research will be available to all participants upon request.
