Chicken and bunny
The Planning & Zoning Division of the Community Development Department is surveying the public to gather feedback on proposed amendments to the Unified Development Code (UDC), under Section 2.4.7, Animals and Fowl.  The proposed amendments would allow the raising of six (6) chickens or six (6) rabbits or a combination of six (6) in residential areas with specific conditions.

Currently, chickens are not allowed, except by a Special Use Permit (SUP). The Farmington Unified Development Code requires a SUP for the keeping of animals and fowl (including chickens and rabbits).  The SUP is a process that must be heard by the Planning and Zoning Commission and approved by the City Council.  This process can take up to 45 days and can be costly.

Based on recent interest from some residents regarding the keeping of chickens/rabbits inside the City limits, this issue is currently being studied. By taking the online survey, City Council and staff can better gauge the level of community interest and other details on this subject. The information compiled from this survey will be shared with the City Council.
