Network for Prosocial Mindfulness

You are warmly invited to feedback on the progress to date, the work ahead and join a Network for Prosocial Mindfulness and collaborate with colleagues in the field to promote the relational and prosocial context of mindfulness

There is no deadline for feedback but it would be really helpful to gather as much as possible before 22nd July 2024.
Please provide us with the below information to help begin the process of engagement.
Name(Required.)
Location - Country(Required.)
Contact email address(Required.)
Are you an independent teacher or representing a training centre? If you do represent a centre, please provide details of the centre?(Required.)
Please could you tell us a little about your work in the mindfulness field?(Required.)
So far, we have four recommendations, we are inviting feedback and comments on these:

1. In teaching and marketing, we propose an increase in language that includes the benefits of mindfulness for others and for communities, in addition to the benefits for oneself. Such as:

“Mindfulness could help individuals to reduce their stress and increase their empathy and concern for others and their wider environment.”

“Mindfulness could help increase general wellbeing and the ability to care for and support others.”

“Those who attend mindfulness courses could see improvements in their mental health and their ability to positively contribute to their communities.”

Do you have any feedback / comments about this recommendation?
2. In teaching and marketing, we propose increased highlighting of prosocial intentions in the development of mindfulness. Such as:

“We become more mindful because we care about others as well as ourselves.”

Do you have any feedback / comments about this recommendation?
3. In teaching, we propose increased highlighting “social” experiences (e.g., compassion, kindness, feeling cared about, love) as factors or resources in the development and sustained experiencing of mindfulness. Such as:

“Feeling connected with others – perhaps with a sense of caring for them and feeling cared about yourself – can support you in sustaining mindfulness of painful, difficult material inside yourself.”

Do you have any feedback / comments about this recommendation?
4. As organisations and teachers, we ask that all demonstrate and communicate their strong ethics. Such as:

“As an organisation, we do not misrepresent our credentialing, or the published research that supports our programmes.”

Members of the Network for Prosocial Mindfulness would agree to endorse a general statement of intention to describe and teach mindfulness in a relational and prosocial context.

Do you have any feedback / comments about this recommendation?
