Project Modeling Inquiry Science Education Applicant Application

Modeling Inquiry Science Education (MISE) proposes to target twenty middle school science, math and special education teachers who teach in high-needs districts in Louisiana.

This year, Project MISE consists of a summer institute and five academic year follow-up workshops during the 2024-2025 school year. These workshop may be virtual, on-campus, or a combination thereof.

We are soliciting teachers who work well with others, have the ability to produce high quality work and are self-motivated. This group will have the responsibility of strengthening the teaching of science and mathematics in their respective school and/or districts.

Project MISE Essential Goal: To immerse participating clinical educators and teacher candidates in inquiry-based teaching and learning experiences in a professional development environment using exhibits and "snacks" (miniature exhibits) that focus on Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory (LIGO) science concepts. The course content will focus on building understanding of basic physics/physical science (waves) and mathematics (measurement and number sense) concepts. Emphasis will be placed on interactive exhibits and "snacks" designed and built by the San Francisco Exploratorium, and the use of technology to ensure that participants are familiar with the content taught at pertinent grade levels.
