2014 - 2015 Priorities

Help stop discrimination against people with disabilities. We need your help to determine the disability issues and the types of advocacy services P&A will provide next year. To find out more about the work we can do, please contact us or check our website, www.pandasc.org

The public comment period ends September 10, 2014. Our Board of Directors will vote on next year's priorities at their meeting on September 13, 2014. The priorities begin October 1, 2014.

Please let P&A know if you agree with the following proposed priorities:

Question Title

PRIORITY 1:
People with disabilities will be protected from abuse and neglect.

Question Title

PRIORITY 2:
People with disabilities will receive the services and supports they need to live in the homes of their choice.

Question Title

PRIORITY 3:
People with disabilities who are in the custody of the South Carolina Department of Corrections will receive legally adequate mental health care.

Question Title

PRIORITY 4:
People with disabilities will overcome barriers to work.

Question Title

PRIORITY 5:
Students with disabilities in the public school system will be educated in the least restrictive environment and receive appropriate behavioral interventions.

Question Title

PRIORITY 6:
People with disabilities will obtain assistive technology such as computers, wheelchairs or other devices needed for work, school or other activities.

PRIORITY 7:
P&A will consider individual case representation issues that are either legally compelling or enforce rights to equal access to goods, services, places, education, and housing in the community.

PRIORITY 8:
P&A will conduct inspections of organizations that serve as representative payees of SSDI/SSI beneficiaries. This work is conducted pursuant to a contract between P&A and the National Disability Rights Network (NDRN).

PRIORITY 9:
People with disabilities will be able to fully participate in the voting process.

PRIORITY 10:
P&A will provide outreach to military personnel and their families about their disability rights.

PRIORITY 11:
P&A will conduct trainings regarding assistance/service animals.

PRIORITY 12:
P&A will advocate on behalf of people with disabilities in state and local disaster preparedness planning.
