Comstock Township currently contracts with the Kalamazoo County Sheriff for dedicated police protection, funded by a voter‑approved police protection millage.
- The original 1.00 mill police millage was approved in 2016 for five years (2016–2020).
- Voters renewed the millage in 2021 for another five years (2021–2025).
- Due to Headlee rollbacks, the current authorized millage rate is 0.9920 mills.
- Dedicated coverage at the current level provides one deputy on duty 24 hours a day, at a cost of approximately $125,000 per quarter (about $500,000 annually).
- We are evaluating options for the future of police protection as the current millage is in its final year of collection.
We are seeking your input on several funding and service-level options.
