Question Title

* 1. Beeby Park is on the corner of Golf Ave and Barrenjoey Rd Mona Vale (near the Scout Hall). The subject site was the original “General Cemetery” site detailed on the plan for the new “Village of Turimetta” in November 1891. Pittwater History files state - “The General Cemetery was located on the corner of Bilgola and Mona Streets (now Barrenjoey Road and Golf Avenue) with sections allocated for Roman Catholic, Presbyterian, Wesleyan, Jewish, Independent, Church of England and a “General” section. In 1905 a new Cemetery site was dedicated for use as a “General Cemetery” and is the current site in use today. The original Cemetery site on the corner of Barrenjoey Rd and Golf Ave was gazetted in 1910 and named “Beeby Park” after the Lands Minister at that time George Beeby. Today it is a pristine Crown Reserve with well established trees, grass in a lovely setting with undulating hills.

Well guess what, Pittwater Council wants to now destroy 103 years of History, move in the chainsaws and bulldozers cutting down nearly 60 well established trees and desecrating the ground, replacing green grass with bitumen for at least 92 cars (confirmed in Pittwater Council's Report 20 May 2013). Once this is gone it’s gone forever.

Please help us by completing this survey to save this beautiful green buffer and open space. We were taught at school that when we depart this earth we should leave it in a better place than when we came into it. Someone should tell Pittwater Council this or do they already know and just don't care anymore. Pittwater Council used to be a "Green Council", a Council that preserved trees but what has happened. Now all they want to do is cut down tree after tree on a lovely little corner like this and for what, to build a carpark which they say works will commence mid June 2013, time is short, we must get a "Stay of Execution". Email us at savebeebypark@gmail.com for photos of the park and please do continue on and complete the survey.

Do you agree this Park is worth fighting for, to save it from destruction ?

Question Title

* 2. The subject site is in the Pittwater Council's Wildlife Corridor as shown on Council's mapping system. In just 2 hours on a Saturday morning we identified Egret birds, Magpies, Native Minor Birds, flocks of Rainbow Lorikeets, Bandicoot evidence and the remains of a Ring Tail Possum possibly attacked by a Powerful Owl. Are you concerned about the loss of at least 60 trees and green grass and the affect this will have on the native wildlife birds, possums and bandicoots that will lose their habitat.

Question Title

* 3. Pittwater Council has stated the proposed carpark in Beeby Reserve on Crown Land corner of Golf Ave and Barrenjoey Rd Mona Vale will be an interim carpark as stage 1 for 77 vehicles and another 15 (minimum no doubt) will be added for stage 2 of the works. This will result in a carpark for at least 92 vehicles on this site. Are you also one of the many in the community that wasn't aware of this prior to reading this survey?

Question Title

* 4. A number of people from within Pittwater Council have inadvertently given away the apparent motive for building this Beeby Reserve carpark. They have said it must be built ASAP to provide parking for “Shoppers” and existing users of the Bungan Lane carpark behind the Post Office, when it closes later this year for reconstruction to a multi level carpark. The term “Interim” carpark appears in current 2013 Council reports which also state another 15 carspaces (minimum no doubt) will be added at a later date. This “Interim” carpark for Beeby Reserve we feel is a knee jerk reaction to Council’s failure to have provided sufficient carparking infrastructure in previous years. Council were told previously that the Bungan Lane Carpark (which currently provides 57 car spaces only) should have gone down 2 floors underground at the same time the adjacent Gateway Building was being constructed as it went down with 2 floors underground parking, however Council chose not to and the opportunity to do this is now lost. Council were also told there should be 2 floors of parking under Pittwater Place but chose not to, and that opportunity is also lost. Now the community are expected to accept a “Knee Jerk” proposal to destroy a “Historical Reserve” when the motive to rush it through and build this carpark is flawed as Council’s apparent intended use of the Beeby Reserve new carpark is not permitted by the Crown Lands act as the parking will not be supportive or ancillary to the recreational use of Kitchener Park and therefore cannot be used by “Shoppers”.

Do you agree with us that Pittwater Council should not be building this Beeby Reserve Carpark considering these points?

Question Title

* 5. The subject site “Beeby Park” currently provides parking for about 20 vehicles on a small dirt surface of informal parking arrangement near the Scout Hall. Pittwater Council did a letterbox drop dated 23 May 2013 to local residents stating, “The work involves the reconstruction of the existing carpark”. This suggests that the only work that is being done is rebuilding the current carpark to make it better, and not expanding any further. The “Existing Carpark” is for 20 vehicles and the “New” carpark is for 77 cars for this stage 1. This is basically 4 TIMES THE SIZE of the “Existing Carpark”. Local residents we speak to say “The information flyer Council sent out was deceptive”. Email us at savebeebypark@gmail.com for copy of the flyer and image of the carpark.

Do you consider the Pittwater Council flyer is misleading in it’s description of the scope of the works ?

Question Title

* 6. Scouts and Girl Guides are outdoor-based activity organisations. The Mona Vale Girl Guides has substantially increased in numbers with the Avalon Girl Guides closing and who now travel to Mona Vale. The large number of Girl Guides who use the subject site will lose a much enjoyed activity area including but not limited to Egg Hunts, Around the World, Tip, Red Light Green Light, Spy, Chasing Games, Erecting 4 Person Tents for Practice, Wide Games, Capture the Flag, Scavenger Hunts, Bull Rush, Queen of The Hill, Hide and Seek, and practising for Clean up Australia Day and much more. We think this is a terrible outcome for the 50 plus members of the Guides and Junior Guides of Mona Vale to lose this activity area. Do you think this also ?

Question Title

* 7. This carpark will increase the Traffic Movements in Golf Ave considerably. Are you concerned about the increase of vehicle movements and the impact they will have on Golf Ave and the intersection of Barrenjoey Rd from both a safety concern and a congestion concern ?

Question Title

* 8. The proposed carpark is on CROWN LAND. It can therefore only be used for car parking to support or be ancillary to the Reserves purpose of sport and recreational purposes. The Crown Lands office has confirmed “SHOPPERS” and “PARK & RIDE” Commuters will not be permitted to park there. Council have stated they will be imposing a sign posted 4 hour time restriction for all car spaces to deter this and maybe PAY & DISPLAY option as well. People we speak to say “Well if it can’t be used by shoppers or for park and ride what’s the point of constructing it, it makes no sense, the informal parking at present works just fine”. Do you agree with this view?

Question Title

* 9. The Plan of Management states the carpark will cost $552,500. Do you agree Pittwater Council should not be spending money building a carpark that will destroy the Environment of Beeby Park and that an overwhelming majority in the community do not want ?

Question Title

* 10. When Golf Ave near the intersection with Barrenjoey Rd some years ago had an “S” bend inserted so that it became aligned with Park St a considerable portion of this site “Beeby Park” was lost to the roads new position. The portion of the old road that was then redundant on the north side of Golf Ave is now used as a carpark for 20 vehicles. Beeby Park already provides parking for 20 cars on a dirt surface near the Scout Hall. Beeby Park therefore provides parking for 20 cars off site (due to the land swap and loss by the realigned road) and another 20 cars onsite near the Scout Hall. Do you agree that Beeby Park already has given it’s fair share of providing parking for 40 cars and Pittwater Council should not be proposing another 77 + 15 car spaces which will then see the whole park gone for carparking and that Pittwater Council should just leave it and the trees alone ? Email us at savebeebypark@gmail.com for a plan of this.

Question Title

* 11. Nearly everyone we speak to has not even heard of this carpark proposal. We consider Pittwater Council has not advertised this Beeby Reserve Carpark proposal adequately or given the community enough opportunity to comment considering the works are due to start mid June 2013. Do you agree with us that not enough has been done by the Council to allow comment ?

Question Title

* 12. Pittwater Council already has approval to build the 5 storey carpark in Bungan Lane rear of the Post Office, which will commence construction later this year. It will be 3 storeys initially with another 2 storeys possible at a later time if needed. This will provide ample parking in Mona Vale. There simply is no need to destroy this lovely little green buffer of Beeby Park on this corner for a bitumen parking lot. Do you agree ?

Question Title

* 13. Pittwater Council has been appointed Trustee by the Crown to manage the affairs of the Trust for Beeby Park. We are getting feedback questioning if the Council is managing the affairs of the trust appropriately in the interest of the Trust in proposing this carpark on Crown Land which has much opposition, is a complete waste of ratepayers money and will serve little or no benefit to the community. Considering what you now know about this proposal are you concerned that Pittwater Council is not managing the Affairs of the Trust appropriately ?

Question Title

* 14. Would you like the proposed Beeby Reserve car park works planned to start mid June 2013 to be postponed for a minimum of 3 months to allow further consultation and feedback from the community ?

Question Title

* 15. Pittwater Councils flyer delivered to local residents states work will commence on the carpark mid June 2013 so time is rather short. We ask that you please email the following addresses objecting to this proposed carpark in the hope that with your support we might, just might be able to stop the chainsaws and bulldozers starting the destruction of Beeby Park in Mid June.
