September 21 Community Visioning Workshop

On Saturday, September 21st the Oaklands Neighbourhood Plan Steering Committee hosted a workshop about the future of Oaklands. What is your vision for the future of Oaklands? We want to hear it!
You can learn more about the Oaklands Neighbourhood Plan, see upcoming workshops and engagement opportunities, and give us your feedback on our website here: https://oaklands.life/onp
1.Transportation: What changes to public transportation, car share programs, active transportation, etc would you need to rely less on your vehicle?
2.Traffic Calming: Where do you see cut through traffic causing trouble on residential streets? What traffic calming elements would you like to see, and where? What barriers to walking, cycling, strolling, are you experiencing?
3.Housing and Land Use: Given that Victoria is expected to grow by approximately 20,000 people by 2041, how do you see the Oaklands neighbourhood changing or adapting to ensure everyone has a quality place to live?
4.Housing and Land Use: What kind of housing do you think the neighbourhood should develop to accommodate both the expected growth and existing residents needs that will change throughout their life stages?
5.Retrofitting Homes: What kind of rules or regulations should be adapted to support homeowners in retrofitting for increased density, considering different life phases and styles?
6.Employment: The ideal neighbourhood supports most of its resident’s needs within a twenty minute travel distance (walking, cycling, riding, or public transport). Striving for this standard, how do you think the Oaklands neighbourhood can attract and keep quality jobs in the area?
7.Food Systems: Part of a sustainable neighbourhood includes opportunities and resources to grow food. How do you foresee this aspect of your neighbourhood developing?
8.Quality of Life: Considering that over the next twenty years, Victoria will be welcoming 20,000 more people to the city, what kind of community amenities would you like to see in Oaklands?
9.Arts, Culture & Education: Imagine an inclusive, multicultural neighbourhood where learning and community building happens at all levels. What needs to happen for that to be experienced in Oaklands?
