Online Training (eMentoring) |
Introduction
Welcome to the first part of your In2science eMentor training. Please allow around 90 minutes to complete this compulsory online pre-placement training module. It will be followed by a Teams meeting where we can all meet, discuss what we've learnt, and share ideas. You will also have the chance to meet and ask questions of a previous eMentor. Both this online induction and the Teams meeting are mandatory requirements before placement with an eMentee.
eMentor training is an important part of your In2science experience and will provide you with tools to:
- Take initiative in online sessions with your eMentee.
- Know what to do if your science or maths knowledge does not match with curriculum content, or with what your mentee wants to discuss.
- Know what to do when you don't know what to do!
The aim of this online module is to act as a 'flipped lecture' where you have the opportunity to work through some key pieces of information in your own time so that we can have a more interactive and productive online training session. There will be slides to read, short videos to watch, and questions so you can check your understanding and provide us with further insights into why you want to be involved with In2science as an eMentor. We will review your responses prior to the next phase of your training.
This training will cover:
- Why online mentoring is important
- Your role
- What you should be aware of
- What your professional boundaries should be
- What your legal obligations around child protection are
- The performative art of video-conferencing.
- And a tour of your eMentor Team spaces with tips and tricks for using Teams
