NYSBC  Scholarship Application for IBCLE Exam in April 2020

We are pleased and proud to be able to provide scholarships to a limited number of eligible candidates for the International Board Certified lactation Consultant (IBCLC) exam in September of 2020.  NYSBC is aware that disparities exist in the lactation professional ranks in New York State and we want to help improve the diversity of the profession to better serve families in our communities. Therefore, only candidates of the non-dominant population (and who are New York State residents) planning to work in underserved areas of New York State are eligible to apply.

NYSBC is strongly committed to supporting the next generation of lactation consultants, and to inclusion, diversity and equity as core values, embracing meaningful participation from diverse stakeholders and actively soliciting varied viewpoints. We strongly encourage people of color, women, l/g/b/t/q+ individuals and those with disabilities to apply for the scholarship to further their lactation credential.

The cost of taking the IBCLC exam may be a financial hardship for some candidates. We are offering need-based scholarship money up to $1000.00 to the IBCLC exam candidate who scores the most points on the following application.  The candidate must be taking the IBCLC exam for the first time (NYSBC will NOT pay for a retake of the exam if you do not pass the first time). We anticipate that there may be a pool of interested candidates; only applicants who submit complete applications and all the supporting documents by the due date will be considered. Supporting documents must be emailed to us at nysbcinc@gmail.com - be sure to put YOUR NAME in the subject line, and all attachments must include YOUR NAME in the file name.

The scholarship award will be applied toward the certification exam application feed; the remaining funds can be put toward the purchase of study materials, and the cost of transportation, meals or lodging directly related to travel to the exam site. Candidates MUST have already completed the required health sciences and lactation specific education and have evidence that they have or will have completed the required number of lactation specific clinical practice required in the pathway to IBCLC exam eligibility they have chosen prior to the May 15, 2020 exam application deadline. Please review the International Board of Lactation Examiners website at www.ibcle.org for information on the three different pathways to IBCLC exam eligibility and the requirements.

The candidate must agree to live and work in New York for at least one year after attaining certification or repay the scholarship money.

The candidate must explain how they personally plan to promote, protect and support breastfeeding in New York State as an IBCLC, and must identify the IBLCE Pathway for which they are currently eligible.
