2018 Summer Institute: Education for Sustainability

During the CELF 2018 Summer Institute Education for Sustainability (EfS) you will engage in active learning experiences that deepen your knowledge of Education for Sustainability (EfS) principles and practices.

Participants will have the opportunity to:

-Create student-centered sustainability projects using CELF’s Place, Problem, and Project-Based curriculum framework.
-Create an EfS Action Plan that links sustainability in their facilities, school practices, and instruction.
-Learn from field experts in climate science, water, environmental justice, sustainable economics, as well as whole systems change.
-Incorporate sustainability concepts into your existing curriculum. 
-Discover engaging student activities and learn from extensive case studies from other schools.

We encourage teachers to participate as a school team (2-3 teachers from same school) to strengthen ongoing collaboration and progress during the school year.

Selection Process:
CELF will contact you upon receipt of the application. 10 teachers will be selected for full scholarships. Priority will be given to teachers applying as a team of 2 or more.    
Scholarship Awardees agree to:

Attendance:
Arrive on time and participate in all four days of the Institute.

Prepare turn-key Institute information with their school learning community by:
       -
Developing a working definition of sustainability and deepening their  knowledge of EfS concepts.
       -
Identifying existing learning opportunities for integrating the Big Ideas of EfS in existing curriculum.
       - Practicing EfS best teaching practices.
Partnership: Establish a partnership with the DOE Office of Sustainability and continue/grow this partnership during the next school year.
Project Work:
Complete and share one of the Institute Project Options with CELF and DOE Sustainability Initiative: 

1.  EfS Instructional Practice: 
Participants who chose this option will develop an EfS Place, Problem, Project-Based (P3) Curriculum Unit Design using CELF’s EfS Design template. 
2.  EfS Leadership Action Plan: 
Participants choosing this option will create an EfS Leadership Action Plan to develop a deeper presence of sustainability in their school culture.
