AN EDUCATIONAL PRECINCT DEVELOPMENT AT NORTH SYDNEY

The following is an extract from the announcement made by the Executive Director of Catholic Schools Dr Dan White on 1 September 2017 announcing the development of an educational precinct at North Sydney.

A partnership between the St Mary’s Parish North Sydney and Sydney Catholic Schools to initiate the establishment of a Kindergarten to Year 12 educational precinct within the Parish of Our Lady of the Way, North Sydney.

The concept of an educational precinct acknowledges the entire faith community of parish, pre-school, primary and secondary schools, inspired by the rich heritage of the Josephite and Mercy Sisters, the Marist Brothers and the Jesuits since the 1880s on the North Sydney site.

An educational precinct offers exciting opportunities and new possibilities for families seeking a Catholic education for their sons and daughters on the existing North Sydney site. These include:

- Strengthened engagement for family and youth in the life of the parish

- Facilities and architecture which facilitate excellence in learning and teaching, engagement with innovation, collaborative approaches and new developments in education

- A seamless, integrated Kindergarten to Year 12 educational experience for boys and girls, with an on-site pre-school without amalgamating into a single K-12 school

- A ‘one stop shop’ for families seeking a Catholic education for their children, conveniently located in a single location close to transport nodes and employment areas.

It is expected that some new buildings and redevelopment of existing facilities will be required and these will be carefully staged through to 2021. Details of the master-plan will be shared with the community, when developed.

A Steering Committee has been formed to make recommendations to Sydney Catholic Schools and the Sydney Catholic Schools Trust.’
