Emerging Innovator Award
Experience: Nominees must have fewer than 10 years of professional experience.
Current Role: Nominees must actively engage in information technology, engineering, or scientific disciplines.
Intellectual Property: Nominees must have created or co-created noteworthy intellectual property protected by one or more granted patents.
Impact: Demonstrated early success of intellectual property (e.g., patent citations, licensing, commercialization, or adoption by industry). Intellectual property contributes to a team, startup, or product that has reached the market or attracted investment.
Prolific Innovator Award
Experience: Nominees must have 10–20 years of professional experience.
Current Role: Nominees must actively engage in information technology, engineering, or scientific disciplines.
Intellectual Property: Nominees must have created or co-created a noteworthy intellectual property portfolio protected by various IPRs (trade secrets, copyright, designs, and patents) - especially patents.
Impact: In addition to the Emerging Innovator impact criteria, also:
(1) Number of patents granted and/or cited above a technology benchmark (e.g., 10+ granted, 50+ citations).
(2) Evidence of technology transfer (e.g., product adoption, startup formation, licensing revenue, adoption in technology standards).
(3) Recognition by professional societies or industry awards.
Leadership & Commitment: Demonstrated mentorship, thought leadership, or active contribution to innovation ecosystems (e.g., conferences, standard-setting, or advisory roles).
Distinguished Innovator Award
Experience: Nominees must have at least 20+ years of cumulative professional experience in innovation-driven fields.
Current Role: Nominees must actively engage in information technology, engineering, or scientific disciplines.
Intellectual Property: Nominees must have created or co-created a substantial and noteworthy intellectual property portfolio protected by various IPRs (trade secrets, copyright, designs, and patents) - especially patents.
Impact: In addition to the Prolific Innovator impact criteria, the following demonstrable societal and industry outcomes are considered:
(1) Technologies adopted at scale, leading to measurable improvements (e.g., healthcare outcomes, sustainability, energy savings, productivity gains).
(2) Broad forward patent citations (e.g., >200 citations across patent portfolio).
Leadership & Commitment: In addition to the Professional Innovator Award criteria, nominees must demonstrate:
(1) A long-standing commitment to serve as an innovation role model (e.g., mentor to emerging innovators, keynote speaker, advisor to innovation councils, leadership in professional associations).
(2) Ongoing contributions beyond patents, such as publishing, teaching, or advocacy for IP rights.
(3) Evidence of mentoring the next generation of inventors (e.g., students, colleagues, or startup founders).
