About this survey...

The Community College Consortium for Immigrant Education (CCCIE)* has been awarded a grant from The Kresge Foundation to integrate CCCIE’s expertise and work on immigrant education issues into broader national college completion and workforce development initiatives. Through this survey CCCIE is requesting input from community college leaders to identify steps to help community colleges around the country improve immigrant student success, college completion rates, and career readiness. Your responses will remain anonymous and will be combined with other responses to help determine CCCIE priorities.

Immigrants and their children are expected to account for almost all of the nation's future labor force growth. By 2030, nearly 1 out of 5 workers will be an immigrant. Adapting college education and job training programs so that they are effective for this fast-growing immigrant population is likely to reduce the national skills gap as well as have a significant positive impact on overall student outcomes. Community colleges are ideally positioned to strengthen educational and career opportunities for immigrants, but they face formidable challenges in addressing the unique needs of a diverse immigrant population. CCCIE provides expertise and services to strengthen the ability of community colleges to offer high quality programs that accelerate immigrant student success and ensure desirable outcomes.

Please note: Our questions are with regard to "immigrant students," defined for purposes of this survey as foreign born students who intend to settle permanently in the United States, and may be documented or undocumented. Refugees and those seeking asylum should also be included. If your college does not specifically identify immigrant students please consider alternative descriptions or methods best suited to your college to estimate the number of foreign born students who are not International students on student visas.

Thank you in advance for your input. We look forward to sharing the findings from this study with all survey respondents.

Sincerely,

Teresita Bango Wisell, Executive Director, CCCIE, Vice President and Dean, Continuing Education at Westchester Community College, and,
Jill Casner-Lotto, Director, CCCIE
