Primary Job Description: NCCJ seeks a part-time youth programs interns for on average ten hours a week. Applicants must be detailed oriented, dynamic and organized. The chosen candidates will be youth with a solid understanding of social justice issues. They will primarily be planning and implementing youth workshops and building office skills. The youth workshops will be rooted in the NCCJ ANYTOWN commitment to educate, liberate and empower youth to become effective and responsible leaders. This position reports to the Youth Programs Educator.  

The Youth Program Intern’s key responsibilities during the year include:

Establish roles, objectives and responsibilities of the Youth Action Coalition.
Recruit NCCJ ANYTOWN alumni to the Youth Action Coalition.
Schedule and facilitate (or support other youth in facilitating) monthly programs/workshops/meetings.
Work with the Youth Programs Educator to prepare the NCCJ ANYTOWN Staff Training’s.
Help prepare for yearly NCCJ ANYTOWNs (spreadsheets, songs books, organizing materials, etc.).
Help prepare for NCCJ Bridge’s programs.
Create, develop, organize, and research exciting events for the NCCJ to host.
Develop monthly bulletins.
Promote and help implement the annual NCCJ ANYTOWN Reunion.
Attend ALL Youth Action Coalition related programs/workshops/meetings.
Establish and supervise sub-committee as needed.
Administer surveys to assess youth needs around social justice issues.
Assist in NCCJ fundraisers.
Complete office work as assigned.
Other duties as assigned.
Youth Program Intern’s should meet the following qualifications:
Passion for social justice.
Strong work ethic as well as the ability to play and have fun.
Foundational understanding of systems of oppression and sensitivity to the effects of institutional, cultural, and individual oppression.
Independent worker, initiative-taker and good problem-solver.
Detailed oriented.
Team player: ability to work in a team setting and provide constructive feedback as well as take direction.
Excellent writing, computer and communications skills.
Ability to work effectively with adults.
Willingness to work some evenings and weekends.
Must have own transportation to and from the NCCJ Office.
 
To Apply:  We are seeking a person to work on average 10 hours per week during the 2017 - 2018 academic school year. The pay is $10.00/hr through December 2017 then increases to $10.60/hr on January 1, 2018.
