Help us design our future treescape

The trees in and around Canberra’s National Triangle create one of the most impressive treescapes of any capital city, anywhere in the world.

This amazing place is the result of a vision created and planted over the last 100 years. Right now, we need your help forming the vision of what the treescape will be for the next 100 years.

After hearing from over 1,000 people online and face-to-face, we have prepared an Issues Paper outlining the six key challenges that need to be considered when designing the future of the treescape in the National Triangle.

The six identified issues are:

Issue Brief description
Design, development and land use planning Pressure to develop while maintaining and enhancing the landscape character as the setting for the National Capital.
Resilience and vulnerability of NCA trees Strengths and vulnerabilities of the tree population in the face current and future trends.
Heritage and Culture Many of the NCA-managed trees are covered by heritage listings and therefore are protected by law.
Community Participation and Knowledge Increasing access to information and knowledge of Canberra’s Central National treescape.
Maintenance, Monitoring, Evaluation and Data Improving maintenance practices with evidence-based decisions based on robust data and information about our trees.
Governance and Management Arrangements Ensuring there are policies and plans in place for NCA-managed trees.

We’d now like to hear whether you believe these six issues cover the major considerations for the future of the treescape in and around the National Triangle via the survey below.
