Natural Supplements: An Evidence-Based Update
January 9-13, 2019, San Diego, California

The call for abstracts offers researchers, scientists, clinicians and students the opportunity to showcase the latest research in nutritional supplements and integrative medicine. Interested parties are asked to submit abstracts of original work dealing with Natural Supplements including, but not limited to: their background, mechanism of action, utilization demographics, efficacy, risk/benefit ratio, patient education, marketing, and regulation. Submission of original works (including works or projects in progress) will be accepted in three categories:

I.    Original Clinical Research
II.   Basic Sciences / Review / Case Studies
III.  Student/Fellow/Resident

The submission deadline is November 30, 2018
. Submitted abstracts will reviewed for scientific content, originality, study design, interpretation, and relevance of the subject matter. Posters accepted by the review committee will be displayed throughout the conference and automatically entered into the onsite poster competition. Authors of selected posters will be notified by December 15, 2018. Submitting a poster does not preclude subsequent presentations at other conferences.   

Examples of Acceptable Abstracts:
We have been asked for examples of acceptable abstract submissions for the conference. What follows are several previously published abstracts which follow the general requirements of our call for abstracts. Additional abstracts in pertinent categories can be found by searching PUBMED with the terms “herbal medicine”.

When will proposals be accepted for the 2019 Conference?
The submission deadline is November 30, 2018. You will be notified of the committee’s decision by December 15, 2018. In fairness to other prospective proposals, Scripps strictly adheres to the proposal deadline and no late proposals will be considered.

Do I need to also register for the conference?
Yes. All accepted poster presenters must also register for the conference. To register online visit: Scripps.org/NaturalSupplements. If you do not register for the conference you will not be permitted to present your poster during the conference. Please note accepted poster presenters are eligible to receive discounted conference registration.

Does Scripps cover travel and hotel expenses of accepted poster presenters?
No. Poster presenters are responsible for all travel/lodging expenses associated with poster presentation.

New this year – Limited Student travel stipends will be available!
  • Up to 10 travel stipends will be offered to offset the cost of lodging and attendance.
  • Travel stipends will be awarded on a first come, first served basis and stipend amounts will be based on the location traveled from.
  • Please indicate your desire to apply for a student travel stipend in the online poster application.
We do have a discounted room block at the conference venue. A block of rooms is being held for us until Wednesday, December 19, 2018. This special room rate will be available until December 19, or until the group block is sold out, whichever comes first. Reservations will then be accepted on a space and rate available basis only. Be sure to mention that you are attending the Scripps Natural Supplements conference when making your reservations to receive the discounted rate.

What is the onsite Poster Competition?
Posters accepted by the review committee will be displayed throughout the conference and automatically entered into the onsite poster competition. Cash prizes and Journal Publication will be available for poster competition winners. Stay tuned for more details on the Poster Competition!

What equipment will be provided onsite for poster presentations?

Corkboards and board fasteners will be provided by Scripps. The corkboards will be 4-ft tall x 8-ft wide. There will be no additional tables, electrical outlets or equipment available for poster presentation.
New this year! To assist you with poster creation, we will be providing easy to use poster templates you can use to create your poster.

What are the set up and breakdown instructions for poster presentations?
You may set up your poster on Thursday, January 10 from Noon-4 p.m. It is important that your poster be installed before registration begins at 8 a.m. on Friday, January 11, 2019. 

Posters must be dismantled following the conclusion of the conference on Sunday, January 13, 2019. Scripps is not responsible for any lost or stolen posters.
